Annie Bersagel

Anne Golden "Annie" Bersagel ( March 30, 1983) was the 2006 NCAA Woman of the Year Award winner, in recognition of excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership as well as the 2006 Walter Byers Award winner as the top National Collegiate Athletic Association female scholar-athlete.[1][2] Bersagel also earned a Fulbright Scholarship.[3]

Early life

Bersagel, a Greeley, Colorado native who attended Greeley Central High School,[4] is a three-time All-American in cross country, a two-time Academic All-American, a two-time Wake Forest University scholar-athlete of the year, five-time track & field All-American, a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) champion in the outdoor 10,000 meters, and was the 2005 ACC champion in the indoor 5000 meters.[1]

Wake Forest

After graduating with honors as an economics and politics double major in December 2005, she continued to train for with Team USA Minnesota based in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota.[3] She joined Team USA immediately after graduating.[5] She then won the USA Half-Marathon champions held in Kansas City, Missouri on June 3, 2006 with a time of 1 hour 14 minutes 36 seconds.[6][7]

Elite Running

She also placed 10th in the 2006 USA Cross Country Championships 8 km. However, in May 2007 she left the training group to complete her master's degree in peace and conflict instead of returning to the University of Minnesota to complete her degree.[8] Bersagel earned a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue a graduate degree in peace and conflict studies at the University of Oslo. Bersagel has interned at the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norway. She has also been awarded a NCAA postgraduate scholarship. She graduated from Stanford Law School in June 2012.[9]

Although she had hoped to appear in the Olympic Track & Field Trials that were held June 27July 6, 2008 in Eugene, Oregon,[4] she did not.[10][11]

She also did not enter the Women's Marathon Olympic Trials on April 20, 2008 in Boston, Massachusetts.[12]

World Stage

She represented the United States during the 2011 Pan American Games for the 10,000m in Guadalajara, Mexico, with a 4th-place finish as the top American in 35:23.31.[13]

Bersagel ran a 2014 US #2 Half Marathon at IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 70:10 (One hour ten minutes ten seconds) which also ranks #54 in the world as of 23 June 2014.[14]

2015 April 25th, Bersagel won in a personal best at Düsseldorf Marathon of 2:28:29.[15][16]
