You've Been Framed! The Planet's Funniest Animals |
Animals Do the Funniest Things was a comedy show in the United Kingdom that aired on ITV. It was a clip show of animals doing humorous things, You've Been Framed!–style. However unlike that show, it was not broadcast in series but in a sporadically-aired 25 episodes over the course of 12 years (1999–2011), over which time it had three logos, three theme tunes, four hosts and four production companies.
History
The show was launched in 1999 by LWT as a special in the ITV summer season. Hosted by Michael Barrymore, it featured various clips of animals doing humorous things. In some ways, it was similar to ITV's other show You've Been Framed!, which features humorous clips sent in by viewers. It is possible some of the animal clips from You've Been Framed! were used on Animals Do the Funniest Things. Further episodes aired sporadically under the LWT/Barrymore tenure.
In December 2002, the show was relaunched by Granada Productions, makers of You've Been Framed!, with Tony Blackburn and Tara Palmer-Tomkinson now co-hosting the show together, as well as a new logo and jazzed up theme tune. It is possible that now it was produced by Granada, it was more likely You've Been Framed! clips may have been used. There was seven episodes in this era which lasted until their final episode in July 2005.
In August 2007, Stephen Mulhern took over presenting duties, which included another theme and logo revamp. Mulhern stayed with the show until it finished in November 2011, appearing in the closing 15 episodes, and becoming the longest-running host.
Under the LWT era, it was one of three LWT-produced humorous clip shows alongside Tarrant on TV and It'll Be Alright on the Night. Under the Granada era, it was one of three Granada-produced humorous clip shows alongside You've Been Framed! and later It'll Be Alright on the Night.
