Ancaster High School is a member of the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. The school's mission statement is "Educating students to become lifelong learners and contributing citizens in a challenging, changing, multi-cultural world." The school's enrollment for 2009-2010 is 990, with Korean, Urdu, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, and Arabic being languages of note spoken by students along with English. Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) are used to assess Grade 10 students' skills in reading and writing. Successful completion of the test is one of 32 requirements students need to attain in order to receive an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The school also offers special education classes as well as an ESL program. Ancaster High School is a registered International Baccalaureate School.
The Huycke-Rowe Teaching Award
The Huycke-Rowe Teaching Award was founded in 2000 by alumni Keith N. Thomson CFP. The award was originally created to honour teachers Billy Huycke and Pauline Rowe who inspired Thomson and made a positive impact in his life. The annual award of $1,000 is given to a teacher nominated by an alumni that have had their life affected in a positive way by the teacher they have nominated.
