Anastasiya Sergeyevna Aksenova (also Anastasia Aksenova, Russian: Анастасия Серге́евна Аксенова; born March 5, 1990 in Ukhta) is a Russian swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events.[2] She is a multiple-time Russian champion and record holder for the individual and relay freestyle events (both long and short course).[3] She also won a gold medal, as a member of the Russian team, at the 2006 FINA Youth World Swimming Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a record-breaking time of 4:10.88.
Aksenova qualified for four swimming events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, by clearing FINA B-standard entry times of 25.57 (50 m freestyle) and 55.51 (100 m freestyle) from the Russian Open Championships in Moscow.[4][5][6] On the first day of the competition, Aksenova teamed up with Daria Belyakina, Yelena Sokolova, and Svetlana Karpeeva in the 4×100 m freestyle relay. Aksenova swam the lead-off leg and recorded a split of 56.57 seconds. The Russian team finished heat one in sixth place and twelfth overall, with a final time of 3:42.52.[7]
In the 100 m freestyle, Aksenova challenged seven other swimmers on the fourth heat, including two-time Olympians Jeanette Ottesen of Denmark, and Anna Gostomelsky of Israel. She placed third and twenty-fifth overall by 0.11 of a second behind Gostomelsky with a time of 55.29 seconds.[8]
On the last day of the preliminaries, Aksenova qualified for two different events with only an hour in between. In the 50 m freestyle, Aksenova edged out five-time Olympian Martina Moravcová of Slovakia by 0.04 of a second to clinch another third spot in heat nine, with a time of 25.51 seconds.[9] An hour later, she finished fifth, as a member of the Russian swimming team, in the 4×100 m medley relay with a final time of 3:57.84. Teaming up with Anastasia Zuyeva, Yuliya Yefimova, and Natalya Sutyagina, Aksenova swam the anchor freestyle leg and recorded a split of 54.13.[10][11]
Aksenova is currently a member of Suduroyar Svimjifelag in Vagur, Faroe Islands, and is coached and trained by Jon Bjarnason.[1]
