The American Handicap is an American Thoroughbred horse race first run annually near the end of June at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California. The race is open to horses, age three and up, willing to race one and one-eighth miles on the turf.

A Grade III event, it currently carries a purse of $100,000.

South African import Colorado King equalled the world record for 1 18 miles in winning the 1964 edition.

In 2011, the distance was shortened to one mile from nine furlongs.

With the closing of Hollywood Park Racetrack, the 2014 edition of this race has been moved to Santa Anita Park in the middle of May.
