Significant Programs and Initiatives

Selective & OC

While the school provides for gifted and talented students throughout the school as part of its alignment with department wide policy and practice, it also provides places in selective and OC classes designed to cater specifically to highly gifted students.

The senior school at Alexandria Park Community School is partially selective, and offers selective places to candidate students who perform well in the statewide examination undertaken in Year 6.

The junior school also has OC (Opportunity Class) places, in a class for gifted and talented pupils in years 5 and 6. Students wishing to enter these classes must participate in an examination and placement process that usually begins in Year 4.[2]

History

The school was formed after the amalgamation of Redfern Public School, Waterloo Public School, Alexandria Public School and Cleveland Street High School. The Cleveland Street High School was formerly located on Cleveland Street in Surry Hills prior to its move to the current Alexandria Park School site in 1977. The Cleveland Street site became an annex to the school specialising in intensive English education

Parents & Community

The school has an active P&C committee that meet on the last Wednesday of each month.
