Alexander Mijares is a neo-expressionist artist from Miami, Florida.

Life and career

Alexander born on December 20, 1984 in Miami, Florida. Mijares started his career in 2011. He creates works inspired by his hometown as well as his Cuban and Spanish roots.

Recognition

Mijares became recognized among the media and entertainment industries after beginning his career. In 2013, Elite Daily recognized Mijares as a Top 10 Influential Artist.[1] The following year he collaborated with rapper Pitbull during the 2014 World Cup.[2][3]Since then he has created custom pieces for artists including Justin Bieber, Tori Kelly, and Pharrell Williams. Mijares also painted the iHeart Radio Station Studio.

In addition to headlining events like Art Basel Miami Beach, Art Wynwood,[4] and Art Santa Fe, Mijares’ art has been displayed coast-to-coast including in New York City’s Times Square, Nobu’s former South Hampton outpost, and the Presidential Office at Florida International University.

He was recently appointed by the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to create a mural dedicated to the hospital’s adolescent patients.[5] He was chosen as Live Like Bella’s Artist Forever as well as Blue Mission’s Agent of Change,[6] and he has had a long-standing partnership with Miami’s Overtown Youth Center.[7][8][9]

He became the artist that designed the official medal ribbons for the 2014 Miami Marathon,[10][11][12] and was named the cover and poster artist for the 2014 Coconut Grove Arts Festival.[13]

Mijares has received accolades from various media publications, including a ranking in CBS’ Top Up-and-Coming South Florida Visual Artists of 2014.[14] He has also been featured in DETAILS Magazine,[15] Haute Living[16][17] Magazine, Elite Daily,[18] and The Miami Herald.
