Al Waleed (town)

Al Waleed is a town in the Al Anbar province of Iraq on the Syrian border. It serves as the main border checkpoint on the route between Damascus and Baghdad. H-3 Air Base is located in this town and was damaged in the attack on H3 by Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force aircraft. In May 2015, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant captured the border checkpoint in the town, giving it complete control over the full length of the Iraq-Syria border.
