The Akita Northern Happinets is a professional basketball team playing in the bj league, the top-tier professional basketball league of Japan. Entering the league in 2010, the team found success for the first time in 2013–14, finishing their fourth season as runners-up. They went on to finish as runners-up for the second year in a row in 2014–15.
In July 2015, it was announced that the team will compete in the first division of the Japan Professional Basketball League, a new league in Japan set to begin play in 2016–17.[1]
