Akira Koike (小池 晃 Koike Akira, born June 9, 1960) is a Japanese politician and member of the House of Councillors for the Japanese Communist Party. He is a physician, specialized in gastroenterology, and a member of the Japanese Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War.
Koike was a candidate in the 2011 gubernatorial election in Tokyo,[1] but was defeated by incumbent Shintaro Ishihara who won his fourth term.
