Air Cadet is a 1951 American drama film directed by Joseph Pevney and starring Stephen McNally and Gail Russell. The film featured a small early role for Rock Hudson.

Plot

A group of cadets begin Air Force pilot training during the Korean War. After primary training at Randolph Field, they move to Williams Air Force Base for advanced training on jets. There cadet Russ Coulter (Richard Long) meets and falls in love with Janet Page (Gail Russell), the estranged wife of one of the instructors. The rivalry puts his future as a fighter pilot in jeopardy.

Cast

Production

Production of Air Cadet began at Randolph Field near San Antonio, Texas. The scenes at Randolph Field were filmed in five days and the cast and crew transferred to Williams Air Force Base near Mesa, Arizona where the remainder of the film was shot.[1] Before he became widely known as an astronaut, Gus Grissom was briefly featured early in the movie as a U.S. Air Force candidate for the flight school.

Reception

Leonard Maltin's review was typical, "Familiar account of Air Force recruits training to become fighter pilots; McNally plays their tough but troubled flight commander. It's fun to see Hudson barking orders at the recruits."[2]
