Aida Tomescu

Aida Tomescu is one of Australia's most prominent painters. Born 1955 Bucharest / Arrives Australia 1980.[1][2] Tomescu is well known for her abstract paintings, drawings and prints.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]

Awards

Tomescu is the inaugural winner of the 1996 Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne LSFA Arts 21 Fellowship. She is also a winner of the Sir John Sulman Prize, the Wynne Prize for landscape and the Dobell Prize for Drawing from the Art Gallery of New South Wales.[12]

Exhibitions

Tomescu's work was the subject of a major survey exhibition at the Drill Hall Gallery in Canberra in 2009 http://sullivanstrumpf.com/artists/aida-tomescu/exhibitions/abstraction/works.[13] [14][15] This is one of over thirty solo exhibitions for the artist.[16] Tomescu’s graphic works were included in the major survey of prints and drawings Out of Australia at the British Museum, London in 2011.[17]

Her works have been a part of many important exhibitions including: ''The Triumph of Modernism'' at TarraWarra Museum of Art curated by Edmund Capon.[18] "Abstraction: The Heide Collection" at Heide Museum of Modern Art (2015); "The Mind's Eye", Art Gallery of South Australia (2013); "Contemporary Encounters", Ian Potter Museum of Art (2010). Tomescu has also participated in a number of international events including Art Stage Singapore (2015) and Art Basel Hong Kong (2015) http://sullivanstrumpf.com/art-fairs/art-basel-hong-kong/art/works

Collections

Tomescu’s work can be found in all major institutional collections within Australia. The Art Gallery of New South Wales has over 20 of her works in the collection.[20][21][22][23]
