Etymology

The name Aeropyrum derives from:
Greek noun aer, aeros (ἀήρ, ἀέρος), air; Greek neuter gender noun pur, fire; New Latin neuter gender noun Aeropyrum, air fire, referring to the hyperthermophilic respirative character of the organism.[2]
