in South China Morning Post, and in The Standard (Hong Kong).[1] Adrian Cheng is listed in Fortune Magazine as among the 40 Under 40 Business moguls in 2012.[2] He’s also listed on Campden FB as among the 40 UNDER 40 - rising stars in family business.[3] Cheng's interest in promoting Chinese art is shown by his involvement in founding the K11 Art Foundation. This has been featured on THE PEAK MAGAZINE Hong Kong[4] and on ARTnews.[5]
Family background and education
Born in 1979, Adrian Cheng Chi-kong is the eldest grandson of billionaire Cheng Yu-tung.[1] He is the third-generation heir of one of China’s most influential business families.[6] Adrian Cheng inherits part of the empire carved out by his grandfather, Cheng Yu-tung, whose holdings are worth an estimated $9 billion, according to Forbes magazine. Among the holdings include the privately held Chow Tai Fook jewelry chain and the Hong Kong-listed New World Development group.[6][7]
Adrian Cheng read East Asian studies at Harvard University and graduated with Bachelor of Arts Honours degree before going to Japan to study Japanese culture for a year.[7] He received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and an Honorary Fellowship from Lingnan University in 2014.[8][9]
Business career
Upon his return from Japan, Adrian Cheng ventured into private banking, although he has no prior experience in that field[1] Later on, he turned his full attention to the family business.[7] Recently, Adrian Cheng became the Executive Vice-Chairman at New World Development, which is the biggest part of the family’s private Chow Tai Fook Holdings empire where he also serves as the executive director and a board member.[1][10][11][12][13]
Adrian Cheng Chi-kong introduced the concept of "art malls" by founding the K11 brand in 2008. He later founded the K11 Art Foundation (KAF) in 2010 which serves as a platform for showcasing Chinese artists and their artworks to the world.[1][5][7][14][15]
