Adam Morfeld
Adam Morfeld (born July 22, 1985) is a Nebraska state senator representing District 46. He is also the Executive Director and Founder of Nebraskans for Civic Reform (NCR).[1][2]
Early life and education
Morfeld was born July 22, 1985, at Long Beach Naval Station and graduated from Lincoln High School in 2003. His father is a former Marine of 26 years that currently works for the Department of the Navy and his mother is an assistant in the Treasurers Office at the Lincoln County Courthouse in Canton, South Dakota. His parents separated at an early age.[3]
In 2009, he graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a BA in Political Science and went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska-College of Law in 2012. During his time as a law student, he was a member of the Nebraska Law Review. He specializes in voting rights and non-profit administration and compliance.[3]
While an undergraduate at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Morfeld founded Nebraskans for Civic Reform (NCR) in 2008, a non-partisan, non-profit organization that works to create a more modern and robust democracy for all Nebraskans with 30 full and part-time staff.[3][4] NCR engages youth through substantive community service learning and leadership programs in schools, and ensuring elections are accessible for youth, low income, people with disabilities and seniors through voting rights investigations, litigation, research, and policy advocacy.[5] Morfeld still serves as the Executive Director.[2][6]
Political career
Morfeld announced his candidacy for the Legislature in 2012, knocked his district five times, and was elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2014 with 68 percent of the vote. He serves as a member of the Judiciary and Education Committees of the Legislature.[7] In addition he also serves on the Special Investigative Committee for the Department of Corrections.[2]
He is the third youngest member of the Legislature and represents downtown, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Campus, and Northeast Lincoln.[1]
Morfeld’s legislative agenda focuses on strengthening education,[8] providing a strong voice for working Nebraskans, affordable higher education,[9] and ensuring quality of life and stability for seniors.[7][10][11]
