Adam Goldberg is an American software engineer and food writer. He was the cofounder of CampusNetwork, LifeBox, and Topic.org. Goldberg is also the writer of A Life Worth Eating, a food and travel blog.

Education

Goldberg graduated from the software engineering program at Columbia University.[1] Following his graduation, Goldberg spent nearly six years living in France, Mexico, and Argentina in order to learn new languages.[2]

Companies

While at Columbia, Goldberg co-founded CampusNetwork, a predecessor to Facebook.[3] He developed the idea in 2003, as a first year engineering student. According to Slate, “As president of his class, he heard a lot of complaints about the university's lack of community spirit. Over the summer, he wrote a simple script for a social network for engineering students. The site let users share personal information, post photos, write journal entries, and comment on one another's posts.” After the site was made available to all Columbia students, “Goldberg says that most Columbia students signed up in just over a month.”

Following this, Goldberg was invited by Mark Zuckerberg to join Facebook in Palo Alto during its start-up phase, however after spending a few weeks with the early Facebook staff in California, Goldberg declined the offer in order to stay with CampusNetwork. The company closed in 2005.[2] Goldberg later founded LifeBox,[4] “an open-source photo and video gallery designed to organize and share large galleries of media with friends and family.”[5] In 2011 Goldberg started, but shortly after discontinued, Topic.org.[6]

A Life Worth Eating

Goldberg founded the food blog A Life Worth Eating in 2007 while living in Argentina.[1] The blog chronicles Goldberg’s world travels, focusing on the restaurants he visits and reviews. Goldberg has stated that, “I keep a very loose mental list of restaurants, coffee shops and food stalls I'd like to visit and try to learn as much as possible while there.”[7] The blog has an Instagram account,[8] which was named one of the ten top “Instagram accounts for foodies” by Mashable.[9] He has also posted his work on Flickr,[10] and his photographic reviews have also been published in other periodicals, such as Business Insider[11] and Eater.com.[12]

Goldberg has participated in events by Epicurious[13] and Food and Wine Magazine also mentioned Goldberg, after he developed a computer program for procuring restaurant reservations.[14] His blog has been cited by chef Enrique Olvera as a place to use when searching for eateries while travelling,[15] and mentioned as a marker for taste by Chow.com.[16] Goldberg has also served as a “celebrity judge” and the Big Taste of Houston festival.[7] In May 2013, Goldberg presented at the Mesamérica conference, discussing “an in-depth look at tasting menus, excess, and what makes for the perfect meal”, in addition to showing evidence of how the world’s top restaurants have been following a trend of less heavy, lower calorie ingredients in their meals.[17]
