Ayatollah Abbas Vaez Tabasi (Persian: آيت الله عباس واعظ طبسی, born 19 February 1935) is an influential Iranian cleric who holds memberships at different institutions. He is currently Chairman of the Astan Quds Razavi.

Early life

Vaez Tabasi hails from a family of Mashhadi origin.[1] He was born in 1935.

Career

Vaez Tabasi is a member of the Expediency Discernment Council and the Assembly of Experts of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He is also the head of the Astan Quds Razavi Foundation. The foundation runs "auto plants, agricultural businesses, and many other enterprises, and it is worth an estimated $15 billion."[2] This gives him the nickname of Sultan of Khorasan.[3]

In 2006 he was elected to the Assembly of Experts[4] to the surprise of some observers.[5] However, he will retired after he declined to run in 2016 election.

Personal life

Vaez Tabasi's daughter married Supreme Leader Khamenei's son, Sayyid Hassan.[1]
