The ARCA Truck Series is a pickup truck racing series which runs on numerous short tracks throughout the American Midwest, running in Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Micigan. It races Mid-size trucks with V6 and V8 engines unlike the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series which run Full-size trucks. Most of the teams in the series are owner-driver combinations or family owned. Current NASCAR Nationwide Series owner Todd Braun started as an owner/driver in the ARCA Truck Series.
History
The ARCA Truck Series completed its fifth full
season presented by the Phoenix Management Group of Ohio, LLC, (or PMG) of Millersport, Ohio in 2014, under a licensing agreement with the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA).
The ARCA Truck Series (ATS) ran exhibition races late in 1998 with the first
full season in 1999. Today, the series has grown into one of the most versatile
in short track racing, having taken popular four cylinder, V-6 & V-8 sealed
crate engine powered trucks to asphalt
tracks of many sizes under one mile, road courses, and numerous dirt tracks in
its history.
The Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is among the leading and most diverse auto racing sanctioning bodies in the country. Founded in 1953 by John
and Mildred Marcum, the organization administers more than 100 events each year.
Rules and truck bodies
The basic rules required the use of a tube frame racing chassis from ARCA approved builders, stock appearing fiberglass body from PMG approved suppliers, and specification Hoosier Racing Tire. Body styles are Mid-size trucks, the Ford Ranger, Chevrolet S-10 and the Chevrolet Colorado, Dodge Dakota, and Toyota Tacoma. The rules have been very stable in the history of the series. The biggest change being the introduction of V8 engines in 2011. The V8 has proven to be much more reliable and cost effective than the V6 and the 4-cylinder engines partially because of the rules the ARCA Truck Series has established. Plus the fans seem to be more interested in the V8 powered trucks.
