ALFA International College (formally known as Kolej Alif) is a private, international college located in Subang Jaya, Malaysia,[1] a suburb of Kuala Lumpur. The college currently offers certificate and diploma programmes in design and education. Since its inception in 1998, ALFA College has been recognized as a leading teaching center in the design fields[2] which has structured its course work towards practical-skills development rather than conceptual learning.[3][4][5]
History
ALFA International College was founded in 1998 as a ‘boutique’ design college which set up shop in the Paramount Gardens district of Petaling Jaya and then relocated to its present site in 2010. In 2004, ALFA College came under the administration of the REAL Education Group and was officially renamed as ALFA International College in 2008. While maintaining its roots as a learning center for design,[6] ALFA expanded its course offerings to include early childhood education in 2010 and more recently fashion entrepreneurship.
The College's expansion into the field of early childhood education was part of a national effort underway in Malaysia to upgrade the quality of its preschool education programme.[7][8]
Programmes
Certificate Programmes
ALFA offers Certificate-level programmes to provide a basic level of proficiency and qualification for adults entering the job market.
Diploma Programmes
ALFA’s Diploma Programmes are full-time programmes which prepare students for entry into the design and teaching professions in 2 ½ years. All design students complete foundation coursework in basic design, illustration and computer proficiency then advance to either the Visual Communications or Environmental Design segments. In their final year, students prepare for entry into the professional ranks via courses in professional practice, portfolio development, and a three-month internship where they gain valuable work experience with a local design firm or preschool centre.
