Aïssa Mandi (Arabic: عيسى ماندي; born 22 October 1991 in Châlons-en-Champagne) is an Algerian football player who currently plays for Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims and the Algeria national team. He plays primarily as a right-back but has also been used as a centre-back.

Mandi made his international debut for Algeria in March 2014. He was a member of the Algerian team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea. As of May 2015, he has won 17 international caps.

Personal

Mandi was born in the town of Châlons-en-Champagne in Northern France to Algerian parents from Oran.[1][2] In 2009, he passed his French baccalaureat, equivalent of A-levels.

Career

He has started to play football at the age of 8 in Stade de Reims. But, on August 20, 2010, Mandi made his professional debut as a starter for Stade de Reims in a Ligue 2 match against Le Havre.[3] In a match against Paris Saint Germain, he scored two own goals.

International career

While he was also eligible to play for France, Mandi decided to play for Algeria and made his debut for them on 5 March 2014 in a 2-0 victory over Slovenia. He was one of the revelations of the Algerian national football team during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
