"8 Days of Christmas" is the first holiday single by the American girl group Destiny's Child. Released as a promotional single only, "8 Days of Christmas" was first released in November 2000 on the 2CD re-issue of The Writing's on the Wall and the US CD maxi-single of "Independent Women".

Composition

The song is based on the Twelve Days of Christmas, but the "8 Days" in the title is a reference to Hanukkah, but the holiday is never mentioned in the song. Knowles stated during the "8 Days of Christmas" video premiere at 106 & Park in Fall 2001: "Actually we wrote the song two years ago, when we went in the studio to do some Christmas something. That's what started the idea of doing a Christmas album."[1]

Music video

A video was filmed for "8 Days of Christmas" and was released in the winter of 2001. It was directed by Sanaa Hamri. All 3 members appear in Santa-like clothing at a toy store on a snowy day. Throughout the video the group shops for various gifts and in between cuts, Knowles rides on a carousel. At the end of the video, many children begin rushing into the toy store where the group gives out gifts.

The music video is featured on the DualDisc edition of the album 8 Days of Christmas.
