85 Broads
85 Broads, rebranded by Sallie Krawcheck as Ellevate Network, is a network for high-achieving women founded in 1997.[1] The name originates from the address of Goldman Sachs (85 Broad Street), where founder Janet Hanson was the first woman promoted into sales management.[2]
The network currently has over 30,000 members from 130 countries and more than 40 regional chapters and campus clubs.
85 Broads produces webinars, networking events, and workshops including monthly Power Breakfasts and Broad Advantage Career Boot Camps.[3] In 2004, 85 Broads staged a "Buycott" encouraging women to prove their purchasing power and market clout by refraining from shopping for a day.[4]
On May 15, 2013, The New York Times reported that Sallie L. Krawcheck, a former executive of Bank of America and Citigroup, had agreed to buy 85 Broads.[5]
