The 2016 PSL season will be the fourth season of the Philippine Super Liga (PSL). There will be three indoor conferences for the season – the Invitational Cup, All-Filipino and Grand Prix. There will also be two beach volleyball tournaments. After the conferences, the PSL will be holding the first Grand Volleyball Awards Night dedicated to the outstanding players and coaches who have greatest achievements in the past five conferences.[1]

Background

The calendar of events for the 2016 season was finalized during the planning session between the league officials and team owners on November 11, 2015.[1]

Starting this season, teams will offer annual exclusive contracts, instead of per-conference agreements with their players. The annual contracts will require them to play exclusively for their PSL clubs.[2]

The PSL will send an all-star team that will represent the country in the three-nation invitational Thailand Super League organized by Volleyball Thailand League and SMMTV Sport Channel to be held in Bangkok, Thailand on March 22 to 26, 2015.[3]

On September 16 to 25, selected PSL players will conduct exhibition games in the United States.

The PSL (SportsCore Event Management and Consultancy, Inc.), together with the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI), will handle the hosting of the 2016 Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship on September 3 to 11, 2016 to be held in Manila, and possibly the FIVB World Women's Club Championship in October 2016.[4][5]

In cooperation with the Quezon City Pride Council, the PSL has organized a two-day volleyball competition called "1st Quezon City Pride Volleyball Cup" on February 6–7, 2016. It was claimed as the first volleyball league in the Philippines for the LGBTs.[6] Team Circle led by Jolas Lopez, beated Braganza team, in 4 sets, to claimed the inagural title of the QCPVC.[7]

2016 draft

The 2016 draft will be held on May 20, 2016 with top graduating collegiate players expected to join the draft. Among the marquee players anticipated to join the draft is Alyssa Valdez, a potential first round draft pick. Valdez's manager and LVPI official Tony Boy Liao said Valdez is free to decide if she wishes to move to the PSL or stay with her current Shakey's V-League club team, PLDT.[8]

Indoor Volleyball

There will be four indoor conferences for the season - the Invitational Cup (February 12 to March 13); the All-Filipino (June 11 - July 30); the Champions League (August 19-21), a showdown between the PSL All-Filipino champion, and the champions of LVPI stakeholders, UAAP, NCAA and Shakey's V-League; and the import-laden Grand Prix (October).[1]
