The 2016 ICC Women's World Twenty20 will be the fifth ICC Women's World Twenty20 tournament and is scheduled to be held in India from 15 March to 3 April 2016, featuring 10 teams with matches contested in 8 cities.[1] It will run simultaneously with the men's tournament, also being held in India. Australia start the tournament as the defending champions.
Teams
The top eight teams from the 2014 tournament earned direct qualification to the 2016 tournament. The remaining two spots were decided at the 2015 World Twenty20 Qualifier, with Bangladesh and Ireland qualifying:

Venues
On 21 July 2015, the Indian cricket board announced the name of the eight cities which will be hosting the matches. Bengaluru, Chennai, Dharamshala, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur and New Delhi will be the venues along with Kolkata, which will host the final of the event.[2]

Warm-up matches
A total of 10 warm-up matches will be played between 10 and 14 of March featuring all 10 teams at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore and M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.[3]
Group Stage
On 11 December 2015, International Cricket Council announced the schedule for the tournament[4] with the 10 teams split into 2 groups. Each team plays every other team in its group once.[5] The top two teams from each group qualify to the knockout phase.
