On matchday one,[1] On 25 July 2015,[2] Rapid Wien defeated Ried 3–0 with goals from Florian Kainz, Robert Beric, and Louis Schaub.[3] Ried player Oliver Kragl was sent–off.[3] Rapid Wien finished the matchday in first place.[2] On matchday two,[4] on 1 August 2015,[5] Rapid Wien defeated Red Bull Salzburg 2–1.[6] Athanasios Petsos and Stefan Schwab scored for Rapid Wien and Dimitri Oberlin scored for Red Bull Salzburg.[6] Rapid Wien finished the matchday tied for first with Austria Wien.[5] On matchday three,[7] on 9 August 2015,[8] Rapid Wien defeated Wolfsberg 2–1.[9] Florian Kainz scored two goals for Rapid Wien and Christopher Wernitznig scored for Wolfsberg.[10] Rapid Wien remained in first place.[8]

Austrian Cup review

Rapid Wien started their season with a first round match in the Austrian Cup on 17 July 2015.[50] Rapid Wien defeated Weiz 5–1.[51] Rapid Wien got two goals from Florian Kainz, and a goal each from Philipp Schobesberger and Robert Beric and an own goal from Christian Friedl.[52] Kevin Steiner scored for Weiz.[52]

Champions League

Champions League review

Rapid entered the third qualifying round of Champions League and were drawn against Ajax Amsterdam.[56] The first leg took place on 29 July 2015.[57] The match finished in a 2–2 draw.[57] Florian Kainz and Robert Berić scored for Rapid Wien and Davy Klaassen scored two goals for Ajax.[57] In the second leg, on 4 August 2015,[58] Rapid Wien knocked out Ajax after defeating 3–2 and 5–4 on aggregate.[59] Rapid Wien got two goals from Louis Schaub and a goal from Robert Berić.[58] Arkadiusz Milik and Nemanja Gudelj scored for Ajax.[58] For the playoff round, Rapid Wien were drawn against Shakhtar Donetsk.[60]

Europa League

Europa League review

Rapid entered the Europa League in the group stage after being eliminated in the Champions League playoff round. On 28 August they were drawn in Group E against Villareal, Viktoria Plzeň and Dinamo Minsk.[63] Rapid qualified for the kockout phase on 5 October after a 2-1 home win against Villareal, a 1-0 away at Dinamo Minsk and wins of 3-2 at home and 2-1 away against Viktoria Plzeň.[64]
