The 2014 National Football League commenced on 1 February 2014. 32 teams (Ireland's 32 GAA counties plus London and minus Kilkenny, who withdrew from the competition) are to contest the competition. The competition started on 1 February.[1]
The reigning league champions were Dublin.[2][3][4][5]
Dublin went on to retain their title after a 3-19 to 1-10 win against Derry in the final on 27 April at Croke Park.[6][7][8][9]
Format
The 2014 format of the National Football League is a system of four divisions of eight teams. Kilkenny wiithdrew from The National Football League in 2012. London play in division 4. Each team plays each other team in its division once. 2 points are awarded for a win, and 1 for a draw. The top two teams in divisions 2, 3 and 4 are promoted, and contest the finals of their respective divisions. The bottom two teams in divisions 1, 2 and 3 are relegated. The top four teams in Division 1 contest the 2014 NFL semi-finals and final.
