The Georgian Pirveli Liga was organized in 1990, which serves as the second division of professional football in Georgia. Today it is contested in a single group, in the past there were seasons with separate Eastern and Western groups.

In Georgian First League playing 18 clubs. As the second division of professional football in Georgia, the champion and runner-up of the Pirveli Liga are promoted to the Umaglesi Liga, the Georgian Top League.
