2013–14 Bangladeshi cricket season

The 2013–14 Bangladeshi cricket season is the 14th season of domestic cricket in Bangladesh after the inauguration of the domestic first-class competition. The 2013–14 season saw international tours by New Zealand and Sri Lanka in Bangladesh and the hosting of the 2014 Asia Cup and the 2014 ICC World Twenty20.[1] The season also included the 201314 National Cricket League, the 201314 Bangladesh Cricket League and the 2013 Dhaka Premier League.[2]

International tournaments

2014 Asia Cup

Main article: 2014 Asia Cup

Bangladesh hosted the Asia Cup for the second consecutive time from February 24 to March 7 2014.[3] The tournament featured Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

2014 ICC World Twenty20

Bangladesh hosted the men's and women's World Twenty20 from March 15 to April 7 2014 in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.

International tours

New Zealand in Bangladesh

The New Zealand cricket team toured Bangladesh in October and November 2013. The tour consisted of two Test matches, three One Day Internationals and one Twenty20 International. The matches were be played in Chittagong and Mirpur. Both Test matches ended in draws, Bangladesh won all three One Day Internationals and New Zealand won the lone Twenty20 International.

Sri Lanka in Bangladesh

Sri Lanka toured Bangladesh in January and February 2014 playing two Test Matches, three One Day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals.[2] Sri Lanka won every match, with the excpetion of the second Test match which ended in a draw.

Domestic competitions

Initially it was planned that the National Cricket League would have taken place from November to December 2013, the Bangladesh Cricket League from May to June 2014 and the Bangladesh Premier League from December 2013 to January 2014.[2] But this plan was severely disrupted due to the protests, strikes and blockades surrounding the 2014 Bangladeshi general election. Some tournaments were rescheduled as a result.

National Cricket League

The National Cricket League (NCL) was initially scheduled to take place in November and December 2013. It was later rescheduled to take place from January to April 2014 with a break for the World Twenty20.

Bangladesh Cricket League

The Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) was contested in two parts. The first two rounds of the tournament was conducted in January 2014 in order to give the top players a chance to prepare for the test series against Sri Lanka tour as the National Cricket League had not been contested as originally planned. The remaining rounds of the tournament will take place after the 2014 ICC World Twenty20. The entire BCL was initially scheduled to be played in May and June 2014.

Bangladesh Premier League

The Bangladesh Premier League was planned to have taken place from December 2013 to January 2014, but the future status of this tournament is unknown.

Dhaka Premier League

The 2013-14 Bangladeshi cricket season is scheduled to see two editions of the List A Dhaka Premier League. The first edition, which was held from September to November 2013, was initially scheduled for the 2012-13 season but was rescheduled due to the unavailability of players from the Bangladesh national team.[5]

The first edition of the Dhaka Premier League for the 2013-14 season was held from September to November 2013. The league was rescheduled for a sixth time to 10 September 2013 after its initial postponement from March 2013.[5]

The second edition of Dhaka Premier League for this season was cancelled in the board meet and the league will resume from next season .
