McNeese State
The 37th meeting between the Cowboys and Colonels begins the November schedule. McNeese State owns a 25-11 advantage in the overall series standings and has won the past three meetings. Perhaps an even larger surprise is the Colonels have done better on the road against the Cowboys (7-13) than at home (4-12).[7]

Oregon State
The 2012 season was scheduled to begin with Oregon State playing the Colonels. It was to be the first meeting between the two programs.[10] However, Hurricane Isaac changed this. Since the Colonels hadn't practiced together since August 25 and the campus didn't reopen until September 3, the game was postponed. A December 1 make-up date occurred, when Nicholls State did not make the playoffs.[11]
