Katarina Srebotnik and Daniel Nestor were the defending champions, but neither of them were able to defend their title after their teams were forced to withdraw.

Srebotnik was scheduled to team up with Nestor's former doubles partner Nenad Zimonjić, but withdrew after being injured in her 2nd round doubles match. Nestor was scheduled to play with Russian Maria Kirilenko but was forced to withdraw after Kirilenko sustained an injury in her 3rd round singles match.

Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Horia Tecău won the mixed doubles title at the 2012 Australian Open tennis tournament defeating Elena Vesnina and Leander Paes 6–3, 5–7, [10–3].
