The 2004 Oakland Raiders season was their 45th in the league. They improved upon their previous season's output of 4–12, instead winning five games.[1] The team had a five game losing streak in the middle of the season and only won one game by a touchdown or more, a rematch with their Super Bowl opponent from the previous year The Oakland Raiders (5-11) and the San Francisco 49ers (2-14) are the Bay Area's worst team in 2004. With a 5-11 record, the Raiders sealed their second consecutive losing season.

Week 3 was Rich Gannon's last game in the NFL as a neck injury forced him to retire in the 2005 off-season.

The team lost two of their starting receivers from the 2002 team; Tim Brown was released before the start of the regular season and he would later sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jerry Rice was traded to the Seattle Seahawks midseason.
