The 1998 season of the Tonga Club Championship, previously known as the Lion Shield and the Tongatapu Inter Club Championship, was the eighth season of top flight association football competition in Tonga with the results of any competitions that took place between 1972 and 1981, 1986–97 unknown.^[1] Lotoha'apai won the championship, their first recorded title and the first of eleven consecutive titles.^[1] Runners up in the league were Vaolongolongo and third place went to Ma'ufanga.^[2]
