Groups
The draw for the qualifiers for UEFA Euro 1988 took place on February 14, 1986, in Frankfurt. West Germany qualified automatically as hosts of the competition. 32 teams entered the draw.
The qualifiers, consisting of 32 teams divided into seven groups; three of four teams and four of five teams, were played in 1986 and 1987. Each group winner progressed to the finals.
