• The second Playboy Jazz Festival was held at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, with Bill Cosby as emcee.
• At the Montreux Jazz Festival, Oscar Peterson's performance, accompanied by Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen was recorded and later released as the album Digital at Montreux. Ella Fitzgerald also appeared, accompanied by the Count Basie Orchestra, and her performance was released as A Perfect Match.
