1971 Rothmans Channel 7 Cup

The 1971 Rothmans Channel 7 Cup was an Australian rules football tournament held between the 9 October and 11 October 1971.

The cup as contested by the leading clubs from the VFL, the SANFL and the WAFL.

All matches were played in Perth, Western Australia.

The final, played in front of 30,000, was won by Hawthorn by a margin of 46 points, giving Hawthorn the Rothmans Channel 7 Cup. [1] [2]

The cup was held as a testimonial knockout tournament involving Lightning matches of two 25 minute quarters with time-on, to celebrate the career of Graham 'Polly' Farmer who was retiring at the end of the 1971 WAFL season.
