Paleontology, palaeontology or [palæontology (from Greek: paleo, "ancient"; ontos, "being"; and logos, "knowledge") is the study of prehistoric life forms on Earth through the examination of plant and animal fossils.[1] This includes the study of body fossils, tracks (ichnites), burrows, cast-off parts, fossilised feces (coprolites), palynomorphs and chemical residues. Because mankind has encountered fossils for millennia, paleontology has a long history both before and after becoming formalized as a science. This article records significant discoveries and events related to paleontology that occurred or were published in the year 1920.
Expeditions, field work, and fossil discoveries
- Winter - Summer: William Edmund Cutler finished excavating the "Eoceratops" he discovered in Dinosaur Provincial Park the previous year. He shipped the specimen to Calgary where it was to be stored until he could find an institution willing to buy it. Cutler's "Eoceratops" seemingly vanished after being put into storage and would not be relocated for nearly 90 years when Darren Tanke tracked it to the Natural History Museum in London.[2]
