Season 1906–07 was the 30th Scottish football season in which Dumbarton competed at national level, entering the Scottish Football League for the eighth time, and the Scottish Qualifying Cup for the fifth time.

Overview

Dumbarton finished in a creditable 4th place in their return to the Second Division with 25 points, 7 behind champions St Bernards.[1] The subsequent promotion 'election' process was unsuccessful as the existing First Division clubs all maintained their 'top flight' status.

Unfortunately Dumbarton failed to qualify for the Scottish Cup proper, falling at the first hurdle in the Scottish Qualifying Cup losing to Renton.

Locally, the Dumbartonshire Cup was played on a league basis. Vale of Leven and Dumbarton qualified for the final, but it was the 'Vale' that ran out winners after two replays.

During the season, 7 'other' matches were played, including wins over First Division opponents, St Mirren and Queen's Park. Of these matches, 6 were won and just 1 lost, scoring 21 goals and conceding 13.
