15258 Alfilipenko, provisional designation 1990 RN17, is an asteroid from the outer region of the asteroid belt, about 11 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered by Russian–Ukraininan astronomer Lyudmila Zhuravleva at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in Nauchnyj, Crimean peninsula, on 15 September 1990.[5]
The C-type asteroid orbits the Sun at a distance of 2.7–3.8 AU once every 5 years and 10 months (2,122 days). Its orbit shows an eccentricity of 0.17 and is tilted by 7 degrees to the plane of the ecliptic. It has a rotation period of 4.4 hours[4] and an albedo of 0.06, assumed by the Collaborative Asteroid Lightcurve Link (CALL).[3]
The minor planet was named in honour of Aleksandr Vasil'evich Filipenko (b. 1950), civil engineer at Khanty-Mansiysk, Siberia, and chairman of a charitable fund for the memory of Alexander Danilovich Menshikov (1673–1729).[2]
