Žítková is a small village located on the Czech side of the White Carpathian mountains (Bile Karpaty) that divide Czech from Slovak. Located less than 1 km from the border, Zitkova is also less than 3 km from a major road that crosses the border (the E50) and has frequent bus links to nearby towns, including Bojkovice. This makes the village more accessible than its location, just below the top of a 700 m high mountain in the middle of a nature reserve at the centre of a mountain range, would otherwise suggest.
The Village is the centre of several cultural and nature walks, all clearly sign posted, of various lengths and difficulty. It is also the central point for many mountain bike and trecking trails in the summer (including the very long 'Trans Carpathian Mountain Bike Trail', which usefully passes the village inn and shop). In the winter the main road to the village is kept clear by snow ploughs, helping to make the area accessible as a centre for cross country skiing. There are downhill ski slopes and lifts visible from the village, but these are for local use and unlikely to interest tourists.
The village has a highly recommended hotel, built in 2010. It is on a small promontary from the mountain and offers stunning views across the area from nearly all rooms. The trans-carpathian cycle path goes past the hotel, making it a great stopping point on the route.
There are excellent mountain bike shops in Uhersky Brod and the small 'Hope' ski shop in nearby Banov.
