Zumic is a Brooklyn-based Internet publication devoted to the best talent and most exciting developments in the world of music, especially dealing with pop, rock, hip hop, electronic, and indie genres. The site was built around the basic idea, "to solve a simple problem in the music industry: Every day there’s an overwhelming amount of new information and it’s too unorganized."[2]

History

The site was founded in 2012 and launched as a Beta site in February 2013 by founder and editor-in-chief Brad Bershad, who received his B.A. from Cornell University in American Studies, as well as learning Service Oriented Computing at Stevens Institute of Technology and Sound Engineering at Musicians Institute.[3][4] Assistant editor and head of creative content Evan Petersen came on board in January of 2013 and left in December of 2014.

Philosophy

The underlying philosophy of Zumic is that music is a sacred art form, and both artists and fans deserve to be treated with respect. Unlike many other arts and entertainment websites, Zumic's reviews aim to be as objective as possible as opposed to being based on opinion. There is an emphasis on tracing all content to the source and not promoting bootleg or leaked content. Zumic's slogan is "Good Music, No B.S."[5] because the site chooses to ignore gimmicky marketing campaigns and other subjects that don't pertain directly to music.

Readership

Zumic has seen a steady growth in traffic since its launch in February 2013, currently averaging over 3,000 unique visitors per day. Its traffic data for the second quarter of 2014 includes over over 92,000 visitors and 144,000 pageviews per month.
