Zhou Yun (simplified Chinese: 周云; traditional Chinese: 周雲; pinyin: Zhōu Yún; born 31 December 1990) is a Chinese footballer who currently plays for Jiangsu Sainty in the Chinese Super League.[1]
Club career
Zhou Yun would play for Jiangsu Sainty's academy until he was promoted to the senior team during the 2008 season. With the second tier club Jiangsu having already won the division title and promotion to the top tier, the club's manager Pei Encai decided to give Zhou his debut in the final game of the season against Yantai Yiteng on 15 November 2008 in a 2-0 victory.[2] After the game, Zhou would spend whole of the following season sitting on the bench as Pei Encai decided to stick with experienced players as he kept Jiangsu within the league. It was within the 2010 season when Zhou was given his chance to become a regular within the team when he played in sixteen league games at the end of the season and helped guide the club to a mid-table finish. While Pei Encai may have left the club before the start of the 2011 season, Zhou would go on to become a vital member within the team's defence and go on to see the club finish in their highest ever position of fourth at the end of the season.[3]
International career
Zhou was called up to the Chinese national team for the first time when he was included in the squad for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualifying match against Iraq that was held on 22 March 2013, however he did not play. Zhou would go on to make his debut in a friendly against Uzbekistan on 6 June 2013 in a 2-1 defeat.[4]
