Zhang Zhen (general)

This is a Chinese name; the family name is Zhang.

Zhang Zhen (Chinese: 张震; pinyin: Zhāng Zhèn; born October 5, 1914) was a general of the People's Liberation Army of China, and a former member of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China. Zhang was born in Pingjiang County, Hunan Province. He joined Chinese Communist Youth League in April 1930, and joined Communist Party of China in July of the same year.

From 1957 - 1966 Zhang was the vice president, and later president of PLA Nanjing Military Academy. From 1975 - 1980 he was the vice director, and later director of PLA General Logistics Department, and a member of CPC Central Military Commission. From 1980 - 1985 he was the vice chief of staff in PLA General Staff Department. From 1985 - 1990 he served as the president of National Defence University.

In 1990 Zhang became the president, political commissar and CPC chief of National Defense University. He was an alternate member of 11th CPC central committee, and a full member of 12th CPC central committee. He turned 100 in October 2014.[1]
