Zacheus Marvin "Z." Mason (born January 21, 1991) is an American professional basketball and a former American football player, currently with Hyères-Toulon Var Basket of France's second division. He last played for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on the 2014 PBA Governors' Cup as an import, because the PBA do not allow foreign players to play regularly in a season.[1]

He first played football for Christ Presbyterian Academy with a scout grade of 81,[2] before he played as an import for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and this is also his first professional basketball career experience.[3][4]

Professional career

Mason, never had any basketball career experience before his stint in his team as an import. The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel acquired him as an import to play for the 2014 PBA Governors' Cup, Coach Jeffrey Cariaso acquired him for defensive purposes, Mason is a former American football player with a scout grade of 81,[2] Mason was mentioned as the energy guy of the team, because he is so energetic and good in blocking and defense. On there tune-up game before start of the conference, he scored 22 points to help the team win against the San Miguel Beermen, the score is 83-89, he got a head-to-head matchup against San Miguel Beermen's dominant big forward and center June Mar Fajardo, a first overall draft pick on the 2013 PBA draft, This is first Mason's career experience, he got fresh after an amazing stint in college with the University of Tennessee-Chattanuga where he averaged 15.2 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.0 blocks during his last year.[4] With Ginebra's combinations of tall guys and outstanding shooters, Mason said he notifies that his mission is really is to provide the energy, defense and rebounding as he tries to help the San Miguel to end their six-year title drought.[4]

On his debut game on the 2014 PBA Governors' Cup he tallied 21 points, 15 rebounds along with four assists, marking their first win on that said conference.[5]

On his second game on the 2014 PBA Governors' Cup, he finished with 32 points and 19 rebounds, tallying a monster game against the Meralco Bolts, it also tallies their second win on this conference.[6] On his third game against the Air21 Express, he tallied 22 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists with 8 over 10 shooting from the field, and hitting five over five from the freethrow line, after this win they became number one in the standings and the only undefeated team with a 3-0 standing.[7]

Hyères-Toulon Var Basket

On August 1, 2014, Mason signed with Hyères-Toulon Var Basket of LNB Pro B in France.[8]
