Yulee High School is a comprehensive four-year school located in Yulee, Florida. The current institution opened in 2006, although Yulee had been the site of a high school earlier, from the 1930s to the 1960s. However, in 1965, the Nassau County School Board made the decision to shut down YHS, and students within the Yulee attendance zone began attending Fernandina Beach High School, in nearby Fernandina Beach, Florida. But with rapid growth in the Yulee area starting in the mid-1990s, a new high school was needed and the school board voted to construct an all-new YHS. The initial graduating class of Yulee High School, in 2007, had a 71% graduation rate, 23% of whom graduated with honors.

The mascot of the sports teams for YHS is the Hornet.

On 6 July 2009, the school was designated as a "A" school by the Florida Department of Education, based on student performance on the FCAT. However, by the same date in 2010, the rank had fallen to a "D".

Derrick Henry, who holds the national high school football record for total rushing yards, attended Yulee High School.

Gay rights controversy

In February 2009, two Yulee students sued the school for refusing to allow a gay-straight club to form. Hannah Page and Jacob Brock with the support of the American Civil Liberties Union filed suit in federal court claiming First Amendment rights violations. The school superintendent stated in response, 'a club highlighting sexual orientations will not be permitted as it would violate school board policy.'

On 11 March 2009, a judge ruled that the school must permit the Gay-Straight Alliance club, which meets to discuss discrimination against gay and lesbian students, be allowed the same rights as all other student groups at the school.
