Young's Ferry (Merced River)

Young's Ferry, on the Merced River was one of the three main crossings of that river on the Stockton - Los Angeles Road. They were located within 2 miles (3.2 km) downstream of the rapids called, Merced Falls. Later the town of Merced Falls was located downstream from these rapids. Closest to the falls was Phillips' Ferry, then Belt's Ferry (later Murray's Ferry and the town of Merced Falls), and then Young's Ferry which was a mile and a half down the river from the modern town of Merced Falls. A sign was posted along the road along the river from Snelling to the rapids of Merced Falls which read "T. W. T. Young's Ferry. Nearest and Best Road to All Parts of the Mines South of the River Merced." [1]
