"You and Me" is the third single from American rock band Dave Matthews Band's album Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King. Matthews wrote the lyrics on his iPhone whilst crossing Saratoga Lake on a boat with his family and some friends while the band was playing in the area in mid-August 2007. It was recorded sometime in early 2008, making it one of the earliest songs finished for Big Whiskey. Matthews stated in his June 4, 2010 show at Saratoga Performing Arts Center that he wrote this song "Up Here". Oddly though, towards the album's release date, the song was changed and a previously recorded string section on the song was replaced by a drum track recorded by Carter Beauford. Evidence of this is on the early release version of Big Whiskey that was given out to fans and radio stations for listening parties.[1] It hit radio stations on August 24, 2009.

The song debuted live on June 6, 2009 in Hartford, CT, 4 days after the album's release.[2]

Customers who purchased the iTunes Pass for the album received 2 bonus versions of "You and Me" on September 1, 2009, including an acoustic version of the song recorded in the studio and a live version recorded June 12, 2009 at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs, NY.[3]

Dave Matthews Band appeared on Ellen on September 16, 2009 to play an outdoor concert on the Warner Brothers lot in Burbank, California. During the broadcast, the band debuted their newest single, "You and Me".[4]

This song was featured at the end of the season three finale of the SyFy series Eureka.

The music video for "You and Me" premiered on Yahoo! Music in September 2009.

The song features a hidden track of saxophone playing after the song finishes.

Charts

The band performed the song live at the 2010 Grammy Awards. Afterwards, its sales rocketed on iTunes, fueling a #57 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 on the week ending February 13, 2010.
