"You Make My Dreams", also known as "You Make My Dreams Come True" is a song by the American duo Hall & Oates, taken from their ninth studio album, Voices (1980). The song reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1981.[1]
It has been featured in the television shows King of the Hill, Saturday Night Live, Glee, The Office, Cupid, Rookie Blue and New Girl as well as the films Step Brothers, the documentary My Date With Drew, Dumb and Dumberer, and The Wedding Singer. The song was featured prominently in the popular Sundance film (500) Days of Summer and in the medical drama Private Practice.
American pop rock band Mêlée included a cover version of "You Make My Dreams" on their album Devils & Angels (2007).
The song has been featured in the Australian television advertising campaign for the Toyota Camry Hybrid. The advertising campaign was released prior to the 2010 Winter Olympics.[2] The song also has been featured in the Fox television series Raising Hope during the first season, in 2011, and in Telus' Winter 2011 advertising campaign. The song was also featured in a 2012 eHarmony commercial airing on the television network A&E.
Footage from the music video was later combined with excerpts from the film Desperate Lives, resulting in a popular Keyboard Cat video, "Play Helen off Keyboard Cat. And then join Daryl and John."
The cast of Glee performed the song as part of a mash-up including another one of Hall & Oates songs, "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)," in the episode "Mash Off."
Vocals from the song were later sampled on R&B singer Amerie's song "Take Control".
The song was used in a 2012 ad for the website eHarmony.com.
The band Scaters got its name from the word "scatter" mentioned in this song, with the word pluralized and a single "t" dropped.
