Yoann Barbet (born 10 May 1993) is a French professional footballer who currently plays as a central defender for Chamois Niortais. A product of the Bordeaux youth system, Barbet was a regular in the club's reserve side between 2011 and 2014, before signing his first professional deal with Niort ahead of the 2014–15 season.

Club career

As a youngster, Barbet represented AS Mouliets, Olympique Saint-Pey and FC Vallée de Gamage before joining the youth set-up at Bordeaux in July 2007.[1] He made his debut for the club's reserve team in the 3–0 win against Saint-Alban on 2 April 2011, and went on to make a further four appearances during the final month of the season as the team gained promotion to the Championnat de France amateur.[2]

Over the next three seasons, Barbet established himself as a regular in the Bordeaux reserve line-up, playing 70 matches in total during this period.[2] However, he was unable to break into the first team and ultimately departed the club in the summer of 2014. He subsequently spent three weeks on trial at Chamois Niortais, and was offered a two-year professional contract by the Ligue 2 club.[3] Initially signed as a back-up player, Barbet was given his chance at Niort after first-choice central defender Frédéric Bong suffered a long-term injury. He made his senior debut in the 1–1 draw with Créteil on 22 August 2014, partnering Matthieu Sans at centre-half.[4] Barbet scored his first goal for the side in a 1–1 draw with Orléans the following month.[5]

International

Barbet was capped by the France national under-18 football team on one occasion, playing 45 minutes in the 2–2 friendly draw with Belgium on 27 January 2011.[1]
