Yasin Haji Osman Sharmarke (Somali: Yaasiin Haaji 'Ismaan Shirmarke, Arabic: ياسين الحاج عثمان شارماركي) was a Somali political figure and activist.

History

Sharmarke was born to a Majeerteen Darod family.[1]

He was the leader of the Somali Youth League (SYL), Somalia's first political party. Having also been instrumental in the organization's creation, Sharmarke and other early SYL nationalists were strongly influenced by the religious rebellion at the turn of the century of Sayyid Mohammed Abdullah Hassan (the "Mad Mullah").[1]

Shortly after the SYL's establishment in 1943 as the Somali Youth Club (SYC), Sharmarke died.[1]
