Yashio (八潮市 Yashio-shi) is a city in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. The city was founded on 15 January 1972. As of 2008, the city has an estimated population of 81,148 and a population density of 4,500.7 persons per km². The total area is 18.03 km².
History
- 28 September 1956: The village of Yashio (in Minami-Saitama District) was formed by the merger of three former villages (Shiodome, Hachijō and Yahata).
- 1 October 1964: The village was elevated to town status.
- 15 January 1972: The town was elevated to city status.
- 24 August 2005: The Tsukuba Express railway line opened, and Yashio Station became the only railway station to operate in the city.
